Our Elements Collection is made up of four handcrafted coin pendants representing Earth, Fire, Air and Water (pictured to the right). These are the four elements that ancient Greeks believed that everything was made up of. This theory was suggested around 450 BC, and it was later supported by others.
The four elements were also used to described the four temperaments a person may have, and Hippocrates used the four elements to describe the four “humors” found in the body. These theories stated that the temperaments and humors needed to be in balance with each other in order for a person to be well both mentally and physically.
In astrology, each of the 12 zodiac signs is associated with one of the four elements. These are summarised in the images below. When choosing an Element Pendant you could wear the element that correlates with your star sign or you could wear the element that you may need 'more of' to help you balance out. Or simply wear what ever one you are drawn to, your body knows what it needs!
Now for a look at how our Element Pendants were made. Jodie Nielsen, the owner and jeweller of Jodie Lee Jewellery, carefully designed and handcrafted each of these pendants out of jewellers wax to begin with. The wax element coins were then cast in metal using the Lost Wax Casting Method. The pieces were then filed, sanded and polished and a bail added. They are now available to order in Solid Sterling Silver or Solid 9ct Yellow or Rose Gold. See images below to see some behind the scene shots of the process.
